Let Me Share With You Something

Spring break is here and unlike most college students loaded with lust, cash, and drugs; I am stuck working my ass off in my hometown. Although I tell myself this is for the better in the long run, I’m starting to realize that college is the only time I will get to be self indulgent. After that I’ll (hopefully) have a carrer and I won’t be able to afford taking a week long trip to a tropical resort. I’ve realized that life is supposed to be fun and interesting, and that I haven’t done anything really for my own selfish benefit for awhile. It’s like a midlife crisis during my freshman year.

As I was driving around running errands and what not I came upon this nothing that I need a good sound system in my new car. I thought about it and realized that I neither had the money or the knowledge of installing such a system. I told myself that the money used to buy a stereo system could be better put towards college. But then I realized that I would never want a loud, bone-rattling sub in my car after college. I know I am going to miss these college years, and maybe I’ll never leave them, just for the sake of learning and of having no worries that accompany adulthood. College students have it made whether we realize it or not. We are in between two phases of our lives. The first one being our childhood, when we are told what to do and how to do it constantly by “adults.” And our adult lives where we work a 9 – 5 job, have bills piling up, children, and stress. Ryan O’Connell from the Thought Catalog expresses this best in his essay “Things You’ll Miss About College.” I am going to miss my life that I have now, and I wish I could never grow up and live in these years for the rest of my life.

Right now, I would easily say that if I could choose what ages I would like to live over and over again, I would choose from the time I was born until my college graduation. Maybe as I get older I’ll just keep moving the latter date back more and more, and I truly hope so, but I don’t think that I will. Never again in my lifetime will life be this carefree and fun.

But I’ll try to make it that way.

And here is a video to get you thinking about life. By Luke Redowski and titled “Just Keep Going, You’ve Got Nothing to Lose” it’s a beautiful video interviewing people on New York City’s metro. Enjoy.

I’m Posting Every Week in 2011

I’ve decided I want to blog more. Rather than just thinking about doing it, I’m starting right now.  I will be posting on this blog once a week for all of 2011.

I know it won’t be easy, but it might be fun, inspiring, awesome and wonderful. Therefore I’m promising to make use of The DailyPost, and the community of other bloggers with similiar goals, to help me along the way, including asking for help when I need it and encouraging others when I can.

If you already read my blog, I hope you’ll encourage me with comments and likes, and good will along the way.

And to start things off, I want you to meet Tara. She’s a beautiful women with a wonderful husband who made a video for her as a present. The video is all about their vacation to Portugal. There’s one thing you need to know about Tara first though, she died on January 4th, 2011. So her husband Mike put this video on youtube to show everyone what they had and how much she meant to him. Check it out for a touching experience.

TEDx: Amsterdam Trailer

TEDx events are those that are independently organized and are not associated with the orignal TED events. They are made by people who want to spread ideas, and are organized and orchestrated by those same people in cities all around the world. Here is a trailer for the TEDx: Amsterdam event that plays with the use of light and it’s associated in the western world with “an idea.”

Earlier this year, we asked Amsterdam-based creative production studio +1 to help us create the trailer for this year’s TEDxAmsterdam event.

We wanted to play with the notion of light as the western symbol ‘an idea’, and together we created a story which is about building, refining and unleashing your ideas. It is all set, of course, against the beautiful backdrop of the city of Amsterdam.

The climax takes place at this year’s venue, the Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg.

Amsterdam and The Netherlands are synonymous with light; many of the famous 17th century Dutch painters (Rembrandt for instance, and later Vermeer in the 19th century) remarked on the ethereal quality of light in the Netherlands, and indeed it was this fact that brought many other painters to the country throughout the period.

Ideas are, of course, a central part of TEDxAmsterdam, as is the city itself, and Amsterdam has many ‘light-related’ destinations – including on the bikes for which the city is also known, and which play a central role in our story.

This year’s TEDxAmsterdam will be held in the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam. On the 30th November 2010, this grand city theater will provide a stage for the new ideas of bold thinkers and innovators in the fields of technology, entertainment, design, art, science and business. The common theme of the presentations will be “Science and Fiction”.

Return of the Twisted Metal

So by far, one of my favorite video games as a kid growing up with a PlayStation One was Twisted Metal. I used to go to my cousins house and play this game and we’d spend hours blowing each other up with rockets, bombs, and crazy ass specials. Then as I grew up this game faded from my memory, until this last E3. Twisted Metal debuted on the PS3 with a kick-ass live action trailer that has me wetting my pants with anticipation… Maybe not that extreme but I can’t really explain how excited for this game I am. Here’s the trailer for your viewing pleasure.

And while the graphics may not look up to par as other PS3 games, when has total destruction been about graphics? The TM franchise has always been about chaos,  fun, and blowing the shit outa your buddies. Check out these fan art pieces while you wait for this game to come out.
